      • Hey, no worries! It’s a super-busy month. 🙂 Okay-ish… I had a week of poor writing, as I went back home for my brother’s wedding. I think that’s a good enough excuse, though. 😉 Back on track, now. Trying to hit 2.5k a day, to try and catch up! How’s NaNo going for you? 🙂

        • 🙂 Hey, that’s great! Congrats to your brother. I am so far off track I’m pretty sure I won’t ‘win’ this year, but I’m not terribly torn up about it. I actually thought I’d try full-on pantsing this year. I’ve discovered I’m definitely a plotter, but not at the extreme end. haha

          • Thanks! We had a lovely time, it was a really beautiful ceremony. 🙂 Well, you’ve taken away a lesson from this NaNo, so I’d say that’s a success in and of itself! I’m like you, I’ve tried pantsing in the past, with mixed results… I need to know roughly where I’m going, even if it’s only a rough sketch!

          • That’s wonderful to hear. 🙂 I love weddings. This is only my second time doing NaNo and last time I did complete the challenge, but I also had an outline that really kept me on track. 🙂 Next time I’ll just dive in to prep work and write the story I REALLY want to write at that moment, I think, instead of keeping to a goal that I don’t have a lot of passion for at the moment.

          • Sorry for the slow response, I focused on NaNo for a while! Managed to hit the 50k mark last night, which I was really proud of! First time I’ve ‘won’ NaNo. 😀 Yes, I had a nice little outline for this story, and that really helped with the rough patches. I’m certain that plotting in advance is the way forward for me. Passion is absolutely crucial, I think — I tried to push through a piece I wasn’t in love with last year. I read it back and it just felt tired and dull — you could really tell I had no inspiration for the project.

            I agree that passion is crucial. It can really be a stumbling block when I tell myself I need to write something to finish _______, but then it becomes a drudge instead of a challenge. I’m so happy for you! How much do you think you have left on your NaNo book?

          • Thanks! 🙂 I think I’m about 2/3 of the way through. I’d like a finished draft by NYE, but I’ve slowed down a bit after NaNo. We’ll see. 🙂 Are you still working on your NaNo book, or did you move on to another project? 🙂

          • I’ve been swamped with book design and formatting for the last week and a half, but I’m hoping I’ll be able to finish a prequel I was working on, and then I’ll get down to better planning of the book I started working on in NaNo. It’ll have to be a 2020 project. I bet you could get that last 3rd done by NYE! 🙂

          • Ooh, that sounds cool — is that for a recently finished book that you’re publishing? Sounds like a solid plan. Come at it with a fresh mindset in the new year. 🙂 I think I could, as long as I don’t fall back into lazy ways… 😀

          • No, not for me. I’ve got two clients who are in a competition (it feels like) to publish at about the same time. haha We just had a lot of last minute hiccups (which seems typical w/publishing) that needed fixing yesterday after rushing to finalize the proofed work. And both are nonfiction work, so that’s a little more formatting-intensive…

            Can I ask what your story is about?

          • Oh wow, you run your own publishing house? Sounds like a lot of work, but very rewarding! Hope the hiccups are smoothed out soon!

            It’s a post-apocalyptic story that follows three women at pivotal points in their lives. There’s a fair amount of horror in it, but I reckon it’s less horror than my short stories (although it is quite dark) — I like to think it’s more about the characters and the connections they forge before and after society crumbles. I’m trying to answer the fundamental question: Can life ever be worth living without the love and companionship of our fellow humans?

          • No really a publishing house, but I do design work for other indies. It’s a lot of fun for me, which is kind of weird…like enjoying accounting. 😉

            Sounds like an interesting story! Do you feel like you’ve given your question a thought-provoking answer? It sounds like it has great potential for that.

          • Ah, awesome! Well, as long as you’re enjoying it, that’s the most important thing! Sounds like a really interesting line of work to do. 🙂

            Thank you! I think by the time I’m finished with the main story, each character will have their own answer — perhaps not necessarily agreeing with one another. I’m having fun with it, but it definitely needs a lot of reworking. I’ve got pages of notes and things I want to go back and alter in my second pass through the story. I was speaking to Gary — perhaps the NaNo camps next year will be a good place to edit, edit and edit. 🙂

          • Thank you. I do enjoy it. Formatting can be a little tedious, but I love the finished product of how things look in the end. It’s like almost any kind of construction work, I think.

            Yes, the NaNo camps should be a great time to do that. We’re thinking of putting a cabin of BlogBattlers together, if you’d be interested in joining that!

          • It sounds like very rewarding work, once it’s all done and looking pretty. 🙂 I know what you mean — I’ve recently taken up knitting, haha, and I love admiring the handiwork and progress. 😀

          • I found the first hour or so frustratingly difficult, but after that, it’s super-easy! My partner and I were binging Christmas films on a lazy Sunday, and she was knitting. Thought I’d give it a go — I like to have something to play with! I think you’d have no trouble if you can crochet 🙂
