As you’ve noticed, the battle has sat dormant for many months. It is still here because I cannot let it go. I love the battle. BUT we are getting ourselves dusted off and set aright once again.
What is my point, you ask?
The point is BlogBattle is coming back! Yes. You heard me right. We will battle once again. There will be changes, so be prepared.
The good news? The parts of battle we all liked best will be back, and all the stuff that bogged it down will be wiped away. We’ll prompt once a month, genre requirements will disappear, your stories will be listed, and there will be opportunity to be found and read by the waiting world. Voting will be gone, but there’ll still be incentive to participate in the form of my (and possibly one or two other admin’s consensus) top pick for the month getting a spotlight here on the battle blog.
There’s more, but maybe I’ve said too much! You’ll just have to wait for the rest.
We’re still working it out. Really looking forward to bringing BlogBattle back from the waste of the web! I hope you are too. 🙂
I don’t know about you all, but I have missed Blog Battles! But take heart! We are resuming battles January 10th, 2017.
There are two changes to take note of:
We’ve reinstated the 1000 word limit (give or take a couple 1000 words)
Now you will be given a WORD and a GENRE to write your story in for the week.
This is designed to help stretch you as a writer and help you discover new ways to create what you never thought to try before.
Think of it as a personal challenge. Just do your best and have fun.
So, get it on your calendar, and for this first word/genre of the new year you have extra time to plan and write! Start now! Post your story to your blog on January 10, and make sure you link back to this post or the Rules page so we don’t miss getting you listed on the weekly stories post.
If you blog on a platform other than WP, you can either post a link in the comments or email me the link to add using the contact form on the About page.
There is a list of Battle Words and one of Battle Genres to take a look at so you can get an idea of what to expect, but these are chosen at random, each using Random.org to make it simple.
Leave a comment if you’ve got questions or, well, comments. 🙂
JANUARY 10th, 2017 Battle
GENRE: Tall Tale
Tall Tale: humorous story with blatant exaggerations, swaggering heroes who do the impossible with nonchalance
Hey all! So you might have noticed that the blog battle for this week didn’t get posted on Tuesday like it should. And if you haven’t noticed, it’s kind of dwindled down. I haven’t been able to write for it myself!
Time seems to fill up quickly with important things and lots of unimportant things. I certainly get it.
Because it is a busy season, and there are many exciting things going on in the months of November and December, I have decided to suspend Blog Battle TEMPORARILY.
We will resume the FIRST Tuesday of January 2017 and the word will be MELT, so if you wrote a story for that word, you can save it for the date or repost it for us here.
In the mean time, I could use your help. I have for you . . .
What do you like about participating in BlogBattle?
PS If I’m missing your story, just leave me a comment to let me know!
Next Tuesday’s Theme Word: Derelict
Read all the stories & PLEASE VOTE for your top favorite.
1500 words max (effective May 2016)
fictional tale (or true if you really want)
PG (no more than PG-13) Content – let’s keep this family friendly!
Your story must contain the word(s) from the theme and/or be centered around the theme in a way that shows it is clearly related.
State the Genre of your story at the top/bottom of your post.
Post your story on Tuesday by 11:59 PM PST (you have a week to write it)
Go for the entertainment value!
Put a link back to your #BlogBattle Short Story in the comments section, and/or include a link to a battle post (not a page) in your own blog post (it creates a “ping-back” which will alert me and our friends to your #BlogBattle post).
Use the hashtag #BlogBattle when tweeting your story.
Let us know if you have a Facebook author/writer page so we can LIKE it to stay connected.
You have until the next Monday at midnightto read the submitted stories & vote for your top three. Please consider the expert use of the theme word when choosing.
We’re excited to announce that starting in May 2016 Blog Battle will find its way here, to its very own blog (http://www.blogbattlers.wordpress.com), where it will hopefully simplify how we approach this fun writing activity.
NOTICE the URL is blogbattl-ERS (battlers) instead of just blogbattle since someone scooped that up before we could grab it. We are totally okay with this, though, because without the BATTLERS there would be no battle! 🙂
***This website will be under construction for the next few weeks, and when we’re ready to reveal the new and improved battles we’ll switch over to this site. It will be in transition for the month of May while everyone gets on board with the awesome changes.
